I've recently had issues with my intrepid after having bought just 6 months prior. It cut off on me as I came to a stop in a local parking lot. I started from the top, first trying to jump the battery...then later charging it and eventually replacing it. I had a mechanic come check it out and he told me his OBDII mentioned the crankshaft sensor. I bought a replacement and it still wont crank. It sounds like its trying to turn over...but wont. Will someone PLEASE help a brother out? P.S. I also tried starting the car with either the camshaft or crankshaft sensors unplugged...no difference. Thanks in advance! "answer this,is the engine turning over but isn't firing up or isn't it doing anything at all,and let me know if its getting any fire or fuel to the engine,it could be be a lock of fuel or fire either one,good luck." -Yes, its turning over, but not firing up. When you begin to crank it, it sounds like its about to start but after trying to turn over once or twice all you hear is the starter whizzing. How do you know if its getting fire or fuel to the engine? Could you elaborate? Thanks.

There is a way to bypass the ignition switch starter relay power feed so that you can find out if the starter solenoid is getting getting power.Try testing the starter relay socket connections first by using a 12 volt test ground the negative lead on the probe, pop out the starter relay, put the key in the run position.Now take the probes tip and check each of the relay sockets connections one of them should be lighting up the test probe if not double check all the fuses.This socket connection is called pin 30 the fuse that feeds it's as I recall is fuse A it's a 20amp blue fuse that is the top fuse to the far right in the row of fuses in the box under the hood where most of the relays too. If pin 30 is hot being its lighting up the probe then have someone try to start the engine briefly while you check the other socket connections pin 86 should now be lighting up the test probe briefly as the key is turned to the start position.If pin 86 is dead then you know that the fused ignition feed isn't getting to the relay and you need to check the fuses inside the car.Now if pin 86 is hot then try putting the relay back in and testing the solenoid wiring to see if the solenoid is getting power with the ignition in the start position.If it is getting power you know that the solenoid is starter is faulty and requires testing and replacement.Note don't try testing the relay socket or the solenoid wiring without first popping out the ASD relay that way the engine won't get any fuel/spark and won't suddenly start on you. The way you by pass the ignition to try and get it to try and turn over is jump pin 87 to pin 30 but do this using at least a good 16-14 gauge wire with the ignition in the run position.If it does turn over it needs to turn over fast enough in order to start the engine and you'll need the ASD relay to be in place.Note that the ignition being in the run position should allow you time to test certain circuits but after 7 mins or so the fuel pump relay etc won't get anymore power. Pin 87 is where the wire would connect to that runs to the solenoid and pin 85 is a negative feed that comes from the gear shifter circuit when it's in park or neutral this feed comes from the transmission.One way you can test pins 87and 85 is attache a wire to the test probes negative lead clamp connect it to pin 30 with the ignition in the run position test pins 87 and 86 with the test probes tip it should be lighting up. Once you know the starter is working and the engine is turning over fast enough but still no start test the coil module unit one wire should be a positive 12 volts with the ignition in the start position.If not the ASD relay circuit or the module's wiring isn't working properly.Basically the ASD relay is monitored or turned on or off via the main comp and if detects no crankshaft or camshaft sensor signal or one of the two sensors is shoring out the comp will shut down the ASD relay output circuit.The output is the pin 87 is the exact same pin I was mentioning on the starter relay socket connector accept its the ASD relay socket. What is different is the relay socket will have 2 positive pins 30 and 86 with the ignition in the run position , pin 85 is the negative comp signal and this same wire feeds the fuel pump relay too.That way if anything is wrong in the fuel pump or crankshaft sensor etc circuits the comp won't send any negative signal to the ASD relay thus the car will crank over but will never start. Hope that helps and best of luck.By the way the info I've offered is what I recall from working different Intrepid's but basically regardless of the engine the basic ASD relay circuit and starter relay etc circuits should be if not exactly the same fairly close.Note most models regardless is a 94-97 all used this type of circuit design. If you want to test for fuel pop out the fuel pressure regulating valve with the key out and by using a rag underneath it. If fuel gushes out put it back in and tighten it down , try to start the engine then again with the key out remove the pressure regulator and if fuel gushes out you at least know fuel is getting to the fuel rail.Always best to bleed the system once you get it started and when possible test the fuel pressure via the fuel rail valve. If you want to get such diagram and schematic as well as diagnostic info try looking online on sites like auto zone or parts source or go to one of their stores ask them for trouble shooting info restarting no start issues, plus get the starter, starter relay, ASD relay, power distribution centre and fuse box diagrams etc.
