The problem involves a windshield wiper switch system. The selector switch has settings high, low, multiple intermittent and off. The switch provides input to an electronic module that operates the wipers via a couple relays. The switch has two inputs to the module and a return. The two inputs, I'll call PW and BR, use resistance levels to interface to the module. The PW input is specified as follows: High: 0 ohms Low: 4.4k Intermittent: 11.3k Off: 44k The BR input selects intermittent interval. (Not part of issue) The problem was that the wipers would only turn on High. Any other position and the wipers would stop. I discovered the problem when I disconnected PW from the switch and then connected a rheostat as the input to the module. As expected when rheostat at 0 ohms the wipers activate on High. Slowly turning the rheostat cause the wipers to shift to Low but at ~500ohms (not 4.4k), intermittent at ~1500 ohms ( not 11.3k) and then off at ~5k ohms (not 44k). When intermittent selected, all levels function properly hence no issue BR input. I tested resistance of the PW wiring from switch to module and all ok. Something is causing the module to trigger on the PW input at approximately 1/8th of the designed levels. First question, assuming the module is not defective (I already swapped), what could cause the module to behave as such? Could improper input voltages (etc) be at fault? Second and most interesting for me is if there was a simple circuit that could 1/8th the switch resistance thereby working around the issue. Parallel resistors to reduce won't work and that exhausts my electronic abilities. Thanks!

POSSIBLE FAILURE...  Voltage level could be too low if it used voltage control, rusty junction somewhere in the circuit.  Defective selector module. Since you made it works at 500 ohm and 5K, why not make your own selector module with these resistance value to force it works . Or a 5K potentiometer could be used.
