Well, I suppose you'll need to change the flywheel to one with a starter ring gear and add a starter motor. You'll also need to build a logic circuit to detect power outages and decide how long you want to wait before the generator kicks in. If this is something you want to leave in the circuit then you'll need a diverter switch that can switch the house from line voltage to the generator, otherwise you could back-feed the generator with line voltage and cause surges and spikes in the house, killing all sorts of electronics. The logic circuit should also control that diverter switch so that during brief outages neither the generator nor the diverter engages. But once it detects an outage of a set period it needs to be able to start the generator, get it running, then switch the house from line to gen. When line power is restored, the logic circuit needs to detect it for a short period of time before switching the diverter back to line before it shuts down the generator. And shutting down the generator is going to be another part of the circuitry, otherwise, you may get it started, but how do you shut it off "Automatically"? There's more to be considered than just automatically starting a motor. If that was all I wanted to do I'd use a 120 volt relay. When power dropped the relay would switch back to its normally closed circuit and engage the starter. But there would have to be more. The motor needs to generate sufficient power to activate another relay, this one at 12 volts, so that when the motor has started the starter motor doesn't continue to try to start the motor, thus eating up the gears and the starter motor.
