Hi Everyone. I have a project and need some info. Basically, right now, I own a building in a rough neighbourhood, I have installed an alarm siren outside the building that is presently connectec via a 12 v adaptor and basic light switch that i can turn on and off to make people scatter. Here is what I want to do, I am not sure how to proceed, if someone can give me a few tips on each topic I would appreciate it, just need to know where to get started. Keep in mind I want to do it as cost effective and basic as possible. I dont mind the extra work . 1- I want to install a basic system with one speaker outside and some sort of microphone inside that I can speak into to also scatter people . Not an intercom really but a loud speaker (that resembles a siren) that I can speak into from the inside when needed) 2- Also, I would like to know if there is a way to control the siren and or speaker system from a remote location via internet. Not sure of equipement needed etc... I appreciate any tips that can get me started. Thanks 2 -

The siren can be controlled from internet or a phone by using a dedicated web server. This is a computer, though it can be a very small one. One way to control it is a 'web relay' in the first link below, which is a stand alone unit that connects to the internet. It provides a little web server, allowing you to browse to it and click on th esiren switch. I expect it needs a fixed internet address, so you can operate it from any internet browser, including a cell phone. This would just turn the siren on and off, but could also turn a PA system on/off and activate a device (MP3 player) that broadcasts a pre-recorded message over a public address system as a separate switch. This circuit board needs a housing and a power supply. The first link below also has USB relays and serial port (RS232) relays that can be controlled from a computer, so could achieve the same thing if suitable software is present on the computer. It means a computer with a fixed address on the internet and that is powered on all the time. The second link has devices that send and receive audio over the internet. While it is dubbed IP Intercom, (where IP means internet protocol) the sound signal received by the intercom could be taken to an external public address amplifier and loud speaker/s. Similarly dedicated software on a PC could receive audio from the internet (a website) and send it to the sound card, where the line out connection then goes to a public address sound system instead of the little speakers near your PC. These IP devices have to connect to your existing internet and share with other stuff on it. This is done using a router. They may need an ethernet connection. Maybe you can find a similar device that can connect to your router using wireless LAN. Maybe there is a LAN in the building already. You can buy PA amplifiers and outdoor speakers easily. It depends how loud you want and how far away it is just what setup to use. I would consider video as well, so you can see and hear what is going on. I think best you find some IT or technical person who can help with getting the boxes and setting them up, and you could wire the loudspeaker etc. A security consultant is the formal way, probably more expensive but in theory more professional. It may not be more expensive in the long run. Solutions that need software to be written are not attractive. Get off the shelf stuff that others have shown to be suitable.
