I just bought a new depth finder for the bow and one for the console and I also bought an on-board charger for my boat. I'm going to hook the on-board charger up to my trolling motor batteries and my cranking battery. Can I just connect both of the depth finders up to the cranking battery? If yes, do I just stack the lead terminal rings on top of each other? Does it matter if they touch while on the battery post? Sorry, I'm kind of a noob at this. Thanks for any help you guys offer me!

Any charger connected to multiple batteries in parallel will just 'see' a single battery of one voltage and the combined capacity - but you cannot combine differing types of battery (starting, deep cycle, AGM, GEL etc.) without possible severe damage to one or all of the batteries. The differing types need quite different charging regimes and it is impossible for the charger circuitry to distinguish between types in a combined circuit - this leads to one of the types charging to 100% capacity first (or possibly being charged way too fast), then overcharging until early failure as the others will not achieve the same level quick enough, then the failed battery can often quickly damage the other batteries due to various issues depending on the charger type and sophistication. Connecting multiple units to one battery is normal - but the best way to do that is to have a single Positive and Negative feed led from the battery up to two buss bars at the console - then take your feeds from there to sonar's, radios, lights etc. Fuse everything and never ever allow any part of the boat to be a ground for any electrical purpose at all. Unless you want it to dissolve in front of you. Your system ideally would have a start battery - isolated for that purpose only, a house battery for electronics and lighting, switchable as an engine start backup, and traction type batteries for your trolling/winch set up - again switchable for emergency starting. Switching should be via voltage sensitive relays, with the starting battery permenantly connected to the engine to avoid inadvertent regulator/rectifier damage. As I said that is the ideal - and you may have to scale it back somewhat for economy and space. Chargers are available that have multiple outputs for differing batteries, I mount small switchmode multistage sealed units directly to vehicles and boats for emergency services and commercial operators, as soon as the boat or truck is near a power point it gets plugged in and the batteries are always at 10% for the next trip. With rescue boats it is cost effective to mount at least two chargers to cope with the two or more types of batteries fitted to these boats. Good luck.
