Krystle S asked I have heard that some cars have flashing lights that are codes does a 04 ford explorer? Mine won't start.?
I have replaced battery, had the starter checked, created another ground wire still wouldn't start, checked all fuses, and relays you can try to start it but it never engages (nothing at all). Yet I still have working radio, windows, and inside and outside lights.
And got the following answer:
LOL This happens all of the time on these. You activated the Anti-Theft System, which will keep the truck from starting. Someone probably was messing around with the keypad that is usually by the door handle and they hit the right numbers (or wrong numbers in this case) too many times and it locked out the ignition. Sometimes it is the starter solenoid and I will tell you how to check that too, but it is most likely the Anti-Theft. For this you need to call you local FORD service dept. and give them a sob story about how you have to go pick up your kids and you can't get the car to start. They will give you the code to reset the system. If that doesn't work then find the starter solenoid and take the cover off, if there is even one on it. You should see 2 large prongs that are threaded and they both have nuts on them and some big wires and then there will be 1 small prong that has a small Red & Blue (may be a different color on yours) wire leading to it and a 90* black rubber boot. Slide that boot off of the prong and lay it somewhere you will be able to find it again. *************SAFETY NOTE************** BEFORE YOU PROCEED TO THE NEXT STEP YOU MUST CHECK THESE THINGS IN ORDER TO MAKE SURE YOU DONT RUN YOURSELF OVER!!!!! 1. Put you parking brake on like you were on a hill in San Francisco 2. If it is a manual, make sure it is in Neutral. CHECK THIS 10 TIMES IF YOU HAVE TO 3. If it is a Automatic then make sure it is in park 4. Then make sure that under NO circumstances is there anyone in front of the car until the test is completed ****YOU MAY NOW PROCEED WITH THE FOLLOWING TEST***************** For this test you will need a basic plastic handled screw driver (Make sure that the metal part is at least 4 inches long and that the plastic part is not cracked or missing) Now with the small wire mentioned above removed from the solenoid and all of the safety stuff in order, stand to the side of the car and bridge the gap between the 2 large prongs with the metal part of the screw driver. (Make sure that the Key is OFF the first time). BE WARNED IT WILL CREATE A SPARK AND IT WILL SCARE YOU BUT DON'T FREAK OUT THIS IS NORMAL. ALSO IT WILL NOT SHOCK YOU UNLESS YOU ARE LITERALLY TOUCHING THE BATTERY! LOL ALSO MAKE SURE THAT YOU DO NOT HAVE ANY FLAMMABLE LIQUIDS AROUND THAT GENERAL AREA AND MAKE SURE IF YOU USE A LOT OF HAIR SPRAY THAT YOU PUT ON A DAMN HAT! It may take a few tries but one you have done it right, you will hear the starter turning over. You will need to hold the screw driver there for about 10 seconds or so. This is kinda like what your key does when you turn it, just a little more cave man! If that worked then it is now time to try the final test. FINAL TEST- Find the + side of the battery and follow the big battery cable to the starter solenoid and identify which prong it goes to. (Remember which one) Now go into the car (Making sure that all of the Aforementioned SAFETY STEPS are followed once again) now turn the key in the ON position, Just ON in the forward position like you were listening to the radio or just trying to roll down the windows. Now go back to the Solenoid and find the Large Prong from the battery again and then locate the small Prong that you took the wire off of. While again standing to the side of the car, now bridge those 2 prongs. The Car/Truck should start if the key is in the ON position. If it does nothing at all no matter how any times you try, then your Starter Solenoid is TOAST! To replace the Solenoid, you will need to pick up a Manual for your Truck at AUTO ZONE or ADVANCED AUTO PARTS and it will give you all of the instructions on how to do this. I know this seems all long and drawn out but once you identify the parts I am talking about you will see how simple it is. It beats having to pay $80-200 for someone else to do it. Best of luck to you.
