I mean does a NO auxiliary contact added to a motor starter (specifically GVAN11) closes wheN motor starter is energized normally? or closes when starter trips upon fault? About Mr Bony's answer, i know that normally means at no power, but what made me confused is that i found two types of auxiliary contacts:"instantaneous" & "fault signalling". My auxiliaries GVNA11 is of the instantaneous type. I think there might be difference. Mr Wingman: I am connecting motor starter in series with a contactor to operte my motor. I will leave the starter energized all the time & will control my motor on/off by controlling the contactor. I need two auxiliary contacts with the starter one of them to light up a pilot larm lamp and the other to open and disconnet the motor from the power when a fault (OL or SC ) happens. (1) You are using a manual motor starting control to operata a motor starting contactor? (2) You want one auxiliary contact on the contactor to turn on a lamp that indicates that the contactor is on? That part is easy, a Normally Open auxiliary contact will work. (3) You want another auxiliary contact to to open and disconnet the motor from the power when a fault (OL or SC ) happens. This can not work as the auxiliary contacts are only operated by the contactor itself. They, as far as I know, have no external control input, just the mechanical link to the soleniod part of the contactor. The over load protection is built into the motor starter when you buy it, all you need to add are the correct Heaters to match the motor amperage. The amperage to the motor goes from the contactor, through the heaters and then to the motor. If the motor draws more current than the heaters are designed for, the heaters get hot, expand, and trip the power off by disconnecting the contactor coil. (4) Please do not take offense, it seems that you have too much stuff/ equipment in the motor circuit. The mechanical motor starter has the same heater choices as the contactor does. You can use either one by itself, you do not need both. You can go ahead and use both, it just seems complicated. I realize I do not have all the information that you have. All that you need to operate the motor starting contactor is a normally open START push button switch and a normally closed STOP push button switch.
