Relay switches (also called an electrical relay or an electrical relay switch) use a small amount of power to control a larger source of power connected to electrical devices such as car motors, computers, and lighting installations. A basic relay switch has a control circuit with an electromagnetic coil and a load circuit with contacts and a lever. When current flows into the relay switch, it moves through the coil and a magnetic field is created, which causes the lever in the load circuit to move between contacts, either turning the device on or off. In a normally open (NO) relay switch, when power is supplied to the relay, the load circuit is closed and the power source connected to the relay is turned on. In a normally closed (NC) relay switch, when power is supplied to the relay, the load circuit is open and the power source connected to the relay is turned off. In other types of relay switches, non-moving parts such as transistors or semiconductors can be used as the control circuit to operate the switching mechanism. Relay switches can be controlled with an external switch, such as a light switch, or they can be connected to an automatically switched power source, such as a car ignition. One relay can operate multiple switches, and multiple relays can be operated with a single switch, with each relay operating independently from the other relays in the system.

I think I might use 555 timers and relays, but i'm not exactly sure how to wire it. I'm using two 9-volt batteries in parallel for a voltage source.
And got the following answer:
Basically you have to switch the positive and negative leads back and forth at the desired rate. It depends on the kind of relays you have. If you have a single pole relay you would need 4 of them and depending on the timer you could need up to two of them. One timer fires two relays one relay hooked to the - side of the battery and the other hooked to + side of the battery then the input of each relay hooked to a different side of the motor. Then you have two more relays hooked the same way to the battery fired by another timer (assuming your timers turn things on and off according to the time of day and not on for a certain amount of time only) Then you take the out put of these two relays and hook them to the opposite polarity of the other two. When one timer is on the other must be off and the motor will run one direction. Then that timer goes off and the other timer closes and the motor runs in the opposite direction. You could use less components if you use a double pole relay..(2) and a multi output stage timer. Hope that came out clear... But a 555 timer is for creating a timing pulse not for turning motors on and off.
The single pole relay work really properly with distinctive applications which might be particular to power distribution and protection. The relays include wide adjustment ranges with a scale that may be easy to read either in three or four digits based on the model. These single pole relay support in growing the flexibility from the applications, reduce the all round power and upkeep costs. You will find relays that are made use of for common purposes which are available in trusted designs with rapid replacement options. And you can find models that are employed for industrial applications and heavier duty applications that function on large loads. These merchandise are made to meet the lifetime industrial control desires of the applications.
Their most recent merchandise are the Time counter, Timer Delay, single pole relay, Speedy Connect Couplings, Electronic Motor Couplings, Aluminum Couplings, Morse Couplings and different other individuals. The internet site provides a detailed description of every model in numerous categories of single pole relay couplings and sensors. These merchandise are extremely valuable for high-risk applications. The single pole relay are also accessible with options like many timing ranges and functions. The business is at the moment in search of agents and dealers who can promote and sell their factory made products. They’re normally on a lookout for developing new and more trusted goods based on the needs and specifications with the market.
